OSHA Increases Civil Penalty Fines

DEALER ALERT

OSHA Increases Civil Penalty Fines

OSHA has severely increased civil penalty amounts for employers who are repetitively found in noncompliance by creating a new program called the Severe Violator Enforcement Program (SVEP).

The Severe Violator Enforcement Program is targeting those employers who have put their employees in danger by a constant and  disregard of violations and lawful recommended solutions. OSHA will use the Severe Violator Enforcement Program to escalate follow-up inspections as well as expand inspections to Dealerships under the same name in order to observe if similar threats are posed to other employees.

Under the Severe Violator Enforcement Program a customary fine for a serious violation that is now $1000.00 will be raised to $4000.00. A violation in which death can occur or grave physical harm can happen is $7000.00. A persistent and repeat infraction will now cost $70,000.00 in fines to your Dealership.

Your Association is able to help you avoid employee injuries and related fines through the Safety Awareness For Employees (SAFE) Program.  SAFE is a program designed by GCADA to help your Dealership create a safe and healthy work environment, comply with OSHA rules and regulations and aid you in following OSHA and HAZCOM standards. (click here for more information on SAFE)
