In Memoriam: Judy Hardy

Former AUTOCAP Chairman for GCADA

Judith Markus Hardy died peacefully on November 5, 2013. She was born in Cleveland, graduated from John Adams High School and Miami University of Ohio, and received her Master of Library Science degree from Western Reserve University.

After receiving her degree from Western Reserve, she worked at the library of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. She later returned to Cleveland and worked at the Allen Library of Medicine, as well as the Shaker Heights Library as where she directed Technical Services.

In addition to her career as a librarian, Judy was an active volunteer, where, at various times she belonged to the Junior Committee of the Cleveland Orchestra and the Junior League. Her first assignment for the Junior League led to joining a mediation panel (AUTOCAP) for the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association. This panel, which she chaired for many years, attempted to resolve disputes between dealers and their customers; as a result, Judy became a self-taught expert on the nuances of automobile repairs.

She leaves behind her husband Dr. Russell Hardy, daughters Jennifer Van Hook of Venice, California and Caroline Emmet of Shaker Heights. She also leaves a brother, Allen Markus, and three grandchildren, Charles, Eliza and Greer.

Private Family Services will be held, and friends and family will gather at her daughter’s home. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Planned Parenthood of Ohio, 206 East State St, Columbus Ohio, 43215.
