In Memoriam: Charles DeLorean

Charles J. DeLorean, of Medina passed away on April 13, 2016.

He was born on July 24, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. DeLorean founded Cadillac by DeLorean in Lakewood, Ohio in 1967, which he and his family ran for 40 years. A member of the Cleveland Automobile Dealers' Association and National Automobile Dealers Association, DeLorean Cadillac won numerous National Awards for Sales and Service Excellence and was recognized as one of the Top 10 dealerships in the nation.

He had a BS in Mathematics and Engineering from Michigan State University as well as having a MBA in Business. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, appointed by the Ohio Governor to the Ohio Automotive Arbitration Board, NRA, Blue Coats, National Association of Business Economists, Mensa Society, Westwood Country Club and Sharon Country Club where he enjoyed years of Golf and Gin Rummy with his many friends. Charles was a 5-time Club Champion with a lifetime low of a 2 handicap and 6 hole-in-ones. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Pilot.

He started his auto career at Ford, then joined Lear Siegler as VP of their Auto Division in Detroit, Michigan prior to starting his Cadillac Dealership. His brother John DeLorean founded the DeLorean Motor Company. The brothers worked closely on many aspects of DMC project which produced the iconic gull winged sports car featured in the Back to the Future Trilogy.

Charles was married for 59 years to the late Shirley (nee Johnston). The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
