EPA Section 609 Refrigerant Recovery/Recycling Certification Program

Federal Law Mandate:

CLEAN AIR ACT COMPLIANCE NECESSARY

Under the Federal Clean Air Act, your technicians must be certified in Refrigerant Recovery/Recycling of mobile air conditioners.

The Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers' Association has put together a comprehensive and EPA approved "online" Refrigerant Recovery/Recycling Auto Technician Certification Program.  The program puts your dealership and technicians in compliance with federal law. This online program has been designed to include all encessary information about HFC-134a and replacement refrigerants.

GCADA Member Dealers' employees are able to take the EPA Section 609 Online Certification course for $12/test by visiting www.gcada.org and clicking on the "Programs" button at the top of the page.  Dealers will also have access to the EPA Section 609 Certification Study Guide after clicking on this button.  Certification will be emailed to the address submittted and compliance will be recorded in the dealership database at www.gcada.org.

The completed test is then sent to an independent grading system for scoring.  The technician must score 80 percent, or higher, to become certified.

All techinicians should become certified for two reasons.  First, under federal law, any technician performing work on mobile air conditioners must be certified. Secondly, any technician who purchases refrigerant must be certified under an EPA approved program.
