Sales Tax Increase for Richland County Effective 7/1/2012
Effective July 1, 2012 the Richland County sales tax rate will increase from 6.75% to 7.00%. The following Q&A’s will assist in applying the new sales tax rate:
1. When does the customer pay the new tax rate?
The increased tax rate goes into effect on July 1, 2012. If a customer purchases a vehicle on or before June 30, 2012, and either took delivery on or before that date or paid for the vehicle in full, he or she should still be charged the old tax rate. 2. What if the customer finances the vehicle?
If the finance paperwork and contract is consummated and executed after July 1, 2012 the customer may be charged the new, higher tax rate. 3. What if a customer purchased a vehicle and paid in full on June 30, 2012, but did not take delivery, do they pay the increased tax amount?
No. However, if they order before June 30, 2012, but did not take delivery and/or pay for the vehicle until after June 30, 2012, such as the case in a finance deal, they will pay the new, higher tax rate. 4. What if a customer orders a vehicle on or before June 30, 2012, do they pay the old, lower rate?
Only if the individual pays for the vehicle in full on or before June 30, 2012.
