New Car and Light Truck Sales Continue on Growth Track in September

New Car and Light Truck Sales Continue on Growth Track in September

Cleveland, OH (October 13, 2011) Retail sales of new cars and light trucks grew almost nine percent in September when comparing the month with the same time period a year earlier, according to figures released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA). Franchised new car and truck dealers sold a total 17,409 cars and light trucks in September of 2011 compared with 16, 015 in September of 2010.

“Motor vehicle sales in Northern Ohio continue to outpace the national average and are a positive indicator in a sluggish economy,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, Jr., president of the GCADA. “Dealers continue to improve the customer experience by offering great incentives and low interest rates to get consumers in the affordable vehicles that they want and need.”

For the year to date through September, sales are up more than 20 percent. Franchised new car and light truck dealers sold 128,839 units last year through September of 2010. Through September of this year, they sold 154,751 units.

A total of 20 brands registered sales increases In September, when comparing sales to the same period a year prior. For the year to date, 27 brands are up from January through September when comparing sales to the same period in 2010.

In terms of total units sold for the month, Ford retained its number one spot with a slim lead over Chevrolet, selling 2,927 units compared to 2,487 for Chevy. However, Chevy’s sales for the month grew at more than 25 percent when comparing September of 2011 with September of 2010. Ford sales grew at 6.63 percent when comparing the same time period. For the year to date, Ford sales are up over 18 percent. Honda grabbed third spot with 1,368 units.

The following 19 brands posted sales increases in September 2011 versus September 2010: BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, GMC, Infiniti, Jeep, Kia, Lincoln, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Saab, Suzuki, Volkswagen and Volvo.

27 Brands Up Year to Date through September (‘11 v. ‘10)

The following 27 brand posted sales increases for the year to date through September of this year versus the same period in 2010: Acura, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Saab, Subaru, Suzuki, Volkswagen and Volvo.
