New Vehicle Dealers Support
Our Region, Our Friends and Our Neighbors

Cleveland, OH (June 13, 2014) – When you buy a new or used vehicle from a franchised new vehicle dealership in Northern Ohio, there’s a very good chance that you’re helping support one of your neighbors or their friends and family, either directly or indirectly.

Local new vehicle dealers play an integral part in our national, state and local economies; investing in new facilities and equipment to sell or lease vehicles, and by employing more than one million people at more than 17,500 dealerships nationwide.

Nationally, dealers generate more than $675 billion in annual sales and support more than $52 billion in national payroll. So, the taxes generated by your local franchised new vehicles have a big impact on our national, state and local tax base. However, the impact of local franchised new vehicle dealers on our state and local economies here in Northern Ohio is even more profound.

“In addition to sales taxes, our member dealers create and support good local jobs that generate significant payroll tax revenues,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association. “In addition, our 255 member dealers annually give more than $4 million to local charities. That’s more than $16,000 from each of our member dealers every year.

“The jobs created at individual dealerships in Northern Ohio are well-paying jobs that fuel an economic engine which helps sustain our entire local economy. And these are jobs that cannot be shipped overseas.”

The average dealership in Northern Ohio employs 60 people in jobs that pay on average in excess of $50,000 each year. That means that Northern Ohio new vehicle dealers employ more than 15,300 people with more than $765 million in annual payroll.

Now think of the multiplier effect that has on our local economy in terms of the goods and serviced purchased by those dealership employees.

Our local franchised new vehicle dealerships help support the many automotive manufacturing facilities across the nation and right here at home, including jobs at the Ford Brook Park Engine Plant, the Ford Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, the GM Lordstown Assembly Plant, and the Parma GM Stamping Plant to name but a few.

When you add in the number of jobs supported by the company supplying those operations, the number of jobs supported by the automotive industry in Northern Ohio is staggering. Indeed, Ohio is still second only to Michigan in terms of the number of automotive manufacturing facilities that call it home.
