In Memoriam: Warren Spencer Babcock

In Memoriam: Warren Spencer Babcock

Warren Spencer Babcock died May 5th, 2016.  Born in Eustis, Florida on February 12, 1927 to Clifford C. and Dorothy Spencer Babcock.  Warren was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 63 years, Mary Ann (Miller) Babcock.  He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (Charles) Richardson; son, Edward (Constance) of Newbury; grandchildren: Laura (Kyle) Daniel; Andrea (Jeremy) Dusina; Clifford J. and Christina Babcock; and 5 great grandchildren.

After graduating from Hiram College in 1949, Warren joined his father at Junction Auto Sales, from where he retired in 1992.  An active dealer, he served as an Ohio Automobile Dealers Association trustee and on the National Dodge Dealer Council, chairing several committees.  Under his leadership, Junction Auto Sales was among the first to receive, and annually retain, the coveted 5 Star Award from the Chrysler Corporation.

Locally involved, Mr. Babcock served Geauga County as district chairman of the Boy Scouts, where he was instrumental in bringing the United Way to the county.  As chairman of the United Way, he helped establish the Geauga Mental Health Association and the Geauga Transit Authority.  Warren served as vice-chairman of the Metropolitan Housing Association, was a member of the Geauga Economic Opportunity program, was a Chardon Jaycee, coached Claridon Little League, and worked on fund raising committees for the Boy Scouts and the YMCA.  He is a member of the Chardon High School Hall of Fame.

Since his retirement, Warren and his wife spent most of their time at their home on Fort Myers Beach.  A community celebration of Warren’s life will be held in Chardon in early Summer.  Remembrances for Warren may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 4930 Enterprise Blvd. NW, Warren, Ohio 44481 or a charity of your choice.
