Administration Continues to Push Conferees to Drop Auto Dealer Provision

Additional House Democrats needed for Letter to Preserve Dealer-Assisted Financing

NADA continues to receive reports that the Obama Administration and the Pentagon are very aggressively urging conferees to eliminate the Brownback/Campbell provision to preserve dealer-assisted financing.  Today the House finalized its list of conferees to reconcile differences between the House and Senate- passed versions of the Wall Street reform bill.  Dealers and dealership employees should call Congressional offices to get additional commitments of support from conferees that they will support the Brownback/Campbell auto dealer language in the final bill. 

In addition, the deadline for the letter from House Democrats, being led by Congressman Owens and McMahon of New York, to the conference committee chairman, Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., supporting inclusion of the Brownback/Campbell auto dealer language, has been extended to Friday (June 11). To date, 32 House Democrats have already indicated they will sign the letter, but dealers must redouble their efforts to urge House Democrats in your state to sign the letter. The Dear Colleague letter Congressmen Owens and McMahon sent to House Democrats, as well as the letter that will go to Chairman Frank, is attached.

Also attached is a list of signers of the Owens-McMahon letter to date.

From the State of Ohio, Reps. Driehaus, Wilson, and Boccieri have agreed to sign the Owens-McMahon letter.

Rep. Kilroy, as a conferee, should be targeted to push for the language in conference. Her office number is 202-225-2015.
