New Vehicle Sales Flat In November, Still Up Four Percent for the Year

Cleveland, OH (December 10, 2012) –New car and light trucks sales remained steady, slipping half of a percentage point when compared to the same month a year prior, according to statistics released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA). Franchised new car and light truck dealers sold 15,498 vehicles in November of this year compared with 15,576 in November of 2011, a decrease of .5 percent or 78 vehicles less. For the year to date, sales are still up over 4 percent.

“Despite a flat month in November, we’re still just about where we thought we would be in terms of the entire year,” said Louis a Vitantonio Jr., president of the GCADA. “Naturally we would like to see stronger sales; however, we expect a strong finish in December.

“Shopping between Christmas and New Years has become a very important week for the auto industry. Manufacturers, dealers and sales people are anxious to clear out inventory in anticipation of new models arriving.

“In addition, virtually every manufacturer has some sort of year-end sales event.”

For the year to date, franchised new car and light truck dealers across Northern Ohio sold 193,237 through the end of November this year compared to 185,757 during the same period in 2011.

A total of 18 brands posted sales increases for the month, when comparing it to November of 2011. Ford continued to lead in the Northern Ohio market with a total of 2,813 vehicles sold in the month. Chevrolet came in second with 1,873 vehicles, while Honda took home third with a very strong showing of 1,526 units sold during the month, an increase of more than 15 percent over November of 2011. While Jeep was up just slightly, Chrysler’s Dodge and Chrysler brands also showed strong double digit growth, month over month, from the year prior.
