Auto Show Employee Appreciation Night
Raises 16,000 pounds of Food for Second Straight Year

Cleveland, OH (March 12, 2013) – For the second straight year, Northern Ohio auto dealership employees raised 16,000 pounds of non-perishable food items for the Cleveland Foodbank as a part of the Cleveland Auto Show’s Dealership Employee Appreciation Night.

In addition, Time Warner Cable, the sponsor of the event, donated $5,000 to the Cleveland Foodbank to assist in its efforts in fighting hunger across Northeast Ohio.

“The amount of food raised during Employee Appreciation Night was virtually identical to what was raised last year,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA). “Prior to last year, the average amount raised was about three tons less.

“This just shows how much our member dealers and their employees care about fighting hunger in Northeast Ohio.”

“We are very grateful to Greater Cleveland Auto Dealers Association for their contribution and ongoing support of the Cleveland Foodbank,” said Karen Pozna, director of communications of the Cleveland Foodbank.  “This contribution will help provide tens of thousands of nutritious meals in the upcoming months, which we expect will be very busy at the Foodbank and at our network of more than 700 hunger programs in six counties.”

Dealership Employee Appreciation Night marks the second time in less than three months that Northern Ohio auto dealers have opened their collective purse strings to help the Cleveland Foodbank fight hunger. In December, the GCADA donated $50,000 to the Cleveland Foodbank as a part of a holiday matching gift challenge.

“Our membership and their employees are also involved with numerous charitable causes throughout the year,” adds Vitantonio. “Whether it’s a major national charity or a local little league baseball team, our member dealers are very active when it comes to giving back to the community.”

The Cleveland Foodbank supplies the majority of the food that is used in local hot meal sites, shelters, and food pantries. In addition, it provides food to childcare centers, group homes, and programs for the elderly. The Cleveland Foodbank also works closely with other Northeast Ohio hunger relief organizations, providing food and nonfood products to hunger centers administered by the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland, among others.

The Cleveland Foodbank has been partnering with the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association and the Cleveland Auto Show on the Employee Appreciation Night for over 10 years.
