New Vehicle Sales Continue
Upward Climb for 11 Straight Months

Cleveland, OH (December 9, 2013) –  For the 11th straight month this year, new vehicle sales in Northern Ohio continued to climb over 2012, according to statistics released today by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association (GCADA). Franchised new vehicle dealers in Northern Ohio sold 15,939 vehicles in November of this year versus 15,498 vehicles in November of 2012, an increase of 2.85 percent. For the year to date, sales of new cars and light trucks are up over 10 percent.

“Whenever you can report 11 straight months of growth in a year, it is always good news,” says Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the GCADA. “With the manufacturers’ year-end incentives and holiday sales events, along with continued promotions from dealers in this month, we’re confident we will see double-digit growth when comparing 2013 with 2012 at the end of the year.”

The GCADA is projecting that franchised new car dealers in the 21 counties in Northern Ohio served by the association will sell more than 229,200 vehicles in 2013, up from the 208,099 sold in 2012.

Ford registered an increase of 3.16 percent when comparing November of 2013 with the same month a year prior, selling 2,902 vehicles and maintaining its title as Northern Ohio’s best-selling brand. While Chevrolet grew faster than Ford, registering a month-to-month growth of over 10 percent, it still came in second place to the Blue Oval with 2,064 vehicles sold. Honda eclipsed Toyota for third place, selling 1,304 vehicles in the month, a scant three more than its offshore rival.

For the second straight month, General Motors’ brands fared better than the local industry average. In addition to the strong double-digit gain by Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac each rang up sales increases of over nine percent in the month. GMC also enjoyed a good month, with sales up over 10 percent when comparing November of 2013 with November of 2012. Dodge and Jeep also fared well, racking up gains of over 20 percent for the month.
