News Release: Dealership Employees Donate 13,000 Pounds of Food to Harvest for Hunger

Cleveland, OH (March 14, 2014) – Employees of Northern Ohio franchised new vehicle dealers recently donated more than 13,000 pounds of food to the Harvest for Hunger campaign in Cleveland. The dealership employees made the donation of non-perishable food items as a part of the Cleveland Auto Show’s Employee Appreciation Night.

“We’re proud of the employees who donated so generously to make Employee Appreciation Night such a success,” said Ed Babcock, chairman of the Cleveland Auto Show and fourth generation owner of the Junction Auto Family Dealerships in Chardon. “It shows just how much our member dealers and their employees care about fighting hunger in northern Ohio.”

In addition, Time Warner Cable, the sponsor of the event, donated $5,000 to the Cleveland Foodbank to assist in its efforts in fighting hunger across Northeast Ohio.

The Cleveland Foodbank supplies the majority of the food that is used in local hot meal sites, shelters, and food pantries, as well as providing food to childcare centers, group homes, and programs for the elderly. The Cleveland Foodbank also works closely with other Northeast Ohio hunger relief organizations, providing food and nonfood products to hunger centers administered by the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland. In addition, this food drive benefits the Cleveland, Akron/Canton, Youngstown, and Toledo food banks.

The GCADA has been partnering with the Cleveland Foodbank on Employee Appreciation night for more than 12 years. In addition, the GCADA has also been a strong supporter of the Harvest for Hunger campaign, donating $50,000 this past December as a part of an annual holiday matching gift challenge. Over the past two years, the GCADA has contributed more than $100,000 to the fight hunger in Northern Ohio.
